Bayview Operating Services offers practicing surgeons, their affiliates and patients a well-equipped facility with qualified staff to provide safety and comfort during their surgical journey with the team at Bayview Hospital.
Accomodation
Patients have the choice of either a private, semi-private or a family suite.
Semi-private rooms house more than two patients, separated by screens for privacy during nursing procedures. The Family suite allows your significant other to stay with you during your in stay care at Bayview Hospital.
Pre-Operative Instructions
Bayview Hospital promises to make your experience as pleasant as possible. The information below will help to prepare you for your journey with the Bayview Hospital team.
General Instructions
When coming to the hospital please bring:
- A form of ID such as your National ID Card or Driver’s License
- A form of payment
- All / any medications you are taking
- All necessary toiletries for overnight stay.
Our Operating Theatre Officer will call you the day before surgery and advise you at what time to arrive at Bayview Hospital for your procedure.
If you should feel unwell on the morning of the surgery and cannot arrive as instructed, please let us know. If you think you may be ill or experience any change in health before surgery, please contact your surgeon or the preoperative nurse at the hospital immediately.
- If you suspect you are pregnant, it is extremely important that you notify your surgeon immediately.
- If you are encountering any challenges, please bring them to our attention.
- It is advisable to arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled surgery.
- Kindly note that occasionally, there may be changes to our schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. A nurse will contact you if scheduling problems arise.
- It is important to provide us with an accurate method of contacting you, your next of kin or relative.
- Please arrange for an adult to drive you home from the hospital. For your safety, if you are having an outpatient procedure, an adult must remain with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.

Night Before Surgery
The Bayview Team understand that you may be anxious prior to your surgery, therefore we encourage all patients to take all the necessary preparation in order, to allow for a smooth and safe surgery and post operative recovery. Get adequate rest/sleep.
Food
You are encouraged to have a hearty dinner and to eat and drink normally the night before the surgery. You will receive specific instructions regarding fasting for surgery from your anesthesiologist or Physician.
Medication
- You will be instructed by both the anesthesia team and surgeon as to which medications you must take.
- Generally, we request that you take most medications on the morning of surgery. Yes, you can take them with a sip of water on the day of the surgery.
- Please bring in all the medication with you on the morning of the surgery.
- If you use an inhaler (s) you must bring them to the Hospital on the day of your scheduled surgery,
- Some medications will be stopped for the surgery, particularly diabetes medication and blood thinners. However, you must bring these medications with you on the day of the surgery.
- Should you have further questions, please contact the Hospital or your surgeon for further information.
Dos & Do Nots
- Leave all valuables at home (jewelry, cash).
- Remove all body piercings.
- Bring your Identification, insurers information and means of payment.
- Shower the day of your surgery and brush your teeth.
- Do not apply make-up, fragrances or hairspray
- Remove nail polish/acrylics if the procedure is on your hand or arm.
- Wear comfortable loose clothing. If you are prone to feeling cold wear something warm or have your family member or friend, bring a sweater or jacket.
- If you wear dentures do not glue them as they may have to be removed.
- You must remove your contact lens, so be sure to bring a case.
- If you wear spectacles (glasses) be sure to bring the case.
- If you wear hearing aids, please wear them to your surgery appointment.
- If you normally use any devices or equipment such as walkers, crutches, please bring them with you.
- If you are booked foran overnightstay at the Bayview Hospital, bring any electronic device/book that you may wish to have during your stay with us.
