Bayview Hospital Partners with Carepath Caribbean and Republic Bank(Barbados)Limited to Bring Virtual Cancer Navigation to Barbados

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS — Bayview Hospital today announced a new partnership with Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited and Carepath Caribbean, the region’s first virtual cancer navigation programme, to give cancer patients in Barbados direct access to a dedicated oncology nurse and oncologist-directed guidance throughout their treatment journey — all without having to travel abroad.

The partnership brings Carepath Caribbean’s model of individualised, virtual cancer support to patients across every cancer type and stage, complementing the care already provided by treating physicians, surgeons, and oncology teams rather than replacing it.

Through this collaboration, Republic Bank (Barbados) Ltd is partnering with Bayview Hospital and Carepath Caribbean to directly assist cancer patients. Demonstrating its commitment to the initiative, the Bank is providing $25,000 to subsidise the cost of the first 10 patients, with Carepath Caribbean also subsidising its costs for these initial 10 patients. Furthermore, Republic Bank is currently developing a specialised financing package to provide additional financial assistance to patients requiring care, which will be officially shared by October 31, 2026.

Why It Matters

Cancer care is complex, and patients often move between more than twenty specialists over the course of their treatment. In Barbados, roughly one in four people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, and cancer accounts for about a quarter of all deaths on the island. Nearly half of all cancer diagnoses occur during a person’s working years, between the ages of 18 and 65, making timely, well-coordinated support a priority not only for patients and families, but for local employers as well.

Through the partnership, patients will be matched with a single, dedicated Carepath oncology nurse who remains with them for the full course of active treatment — typically six to twelve months. Support is delivered entirely by video and telephone, and includes plain-language explanations of diagnoses and treatment options, preparation for specialist appointments, side-effect management between visits, and emotional and lifestyle support for patients and their families.

“This partnership reflects Bayview Hospital’s ongoing commitment to making quality healthcare more accessible to the people of Barbados. By working alongside Carepath Caribbean, we can offer our patients an additional layer of guidance and support at every stage of their cancer journey, while keeping them close to the family and community that matter most during treatment,” said Peter Harris, Chairman, Bayview Hospital.

“Bayview Hospital shares our belief that patients do best when they are informed, supported, and able to stay close to home during treatment. This partnership brings oncologist-directed navigation through a hospital that is already deeply trusted across Barbados, and we’re proud to support their patients and physicians in that work,” said Don Thomson, Vice-President, Strategic Alliances, Carepath Caribbean.

Backed by a Senior Oncology Network

Carepath Caribbean’s navigation model is directed by a team of senior oncologists and pairs that clinical leadership with institutional access secured through a collaboration with Toronto’s University Health Network (UHN), including Princess Margaret Cancer Centre — Canada’s largest comprehensive cancer centre. The collaboration helps facilitate access to specialized care for international patients when referral abroad is genuinely necessary.

Carepath’s clinical leadership includes Dr. Denny DePetrillo, President and Founder, a gynecologic oncologist who established the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Toronto; Dr. Peter Anglin, Medical Director for medical oncology and hematology, based at Southlake Health’s Stronach Regional Cancer Centre; and Dina Linardos, Director of Nursing, a Certified Oncology Nurse who leads Carepath’s oncology navigation programmes.

Beyond the UHN collaboration, institutions represented through the current and previous clinical appointments, hospital privileges and leadership experience of Carepath Caribbean’s clinical team and advisors include Mount Sinai Hospital, Women’s College Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Southlake Health, Trillium Health Partners/Credit Valley Hospital, William Osler Health System/Brampton Civic Hospital, and Jewish General Hospital/Segal Cancer Centre.
