Bayview Hospital NCD Project

As one of the leading hospitals on the island, Bayview Hospital is excited to partner with the Rotary Club of Barbados, Sagicor, Ross University and other organisations, to address a serious issue that is plaguing our society – non-communicable diseases or NCDs.

The prevalence of NCDs stems primarily from unhealthy habits, particularly poor eating choices. Many of these diseases are often diagnosed in their advanced stages due to limited access to testing within society. It’s evident that we cannot effectively tackle a problem that remains hidden.

Through the use of our healthcare information system, Cellma by RioMed, which is seamlessly integrated into our hospital operations, we will gather essential data as we venture into the communities with our partners to conduct testing and provide general education. Our goal is not only to quantify the prevalence of these diseases but also to build a comprehensive, accurate, and dependable database of actionable insights; enabling us to identify trends and contribute to a healthier future.

Cellma will serve as the cornerstone of Bayview Hospital’s efforts, and the information gathered will be shared extensively with healthcare professionals and the Barbados government. Beyond this crucial initiative, we remain committed to our ongoing mission of delivering high-quality healthcare in Barbados. We are excited about the upcoming launch of our 24-hour urgent care facility in 2024 which will house a 24-hour laboratory, state-of-the-art CT scanner and operating theatre, and provide Ambulance and Radiology services. Notably, we will now be able to accommodate walk-in patients.

On behalf of the board, management and staff of Bayview Hospital, I would to extend our gratitude to all of the partners involved in making this project a reality and we look forward to working together to eradicate NCDs in Barbados.
