Your role: The Nurse Manager will be responsible for ensuring appropriate standards of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care are delivered to patients/clients within their clinical setting, as well as, implementing and monitoring quality assurance initiatives; including development of action plans and measuring outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- To co-ordinate the assessment of patients/clients with complex care needs including individuals with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
- To co-ordinate risk assessment processes to determine risks to the health and wellbeing of patients/clients with complex care needs, taking relevant action to minimize these risks.
- To act in accordance with the Nursing Council of Barbados (NCOB) professional code of conduct, and other professional standards set by the NCOB
- To identify the training and educational needs of staff.
- To undertake in-house annual mandatory training in Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Safety and AED training.
- To lead in the recruitment and retention of team members.
- To ensure that all staff undergoes the professional development review process and that staff with performance issues are appropriately managed to address their developmental needs.
- To monitor expenditure and report to the line manager any actual or potential deviations from the allocated budget.
- To manage conflict between individuals, including staff, patients/clients and their significant others.
- In conjunction with the Governance and Assurance, co-ordinate audit activity within the practice setting.
- To actively promote evidence-based practice in own and the practice of other members of staff involved in the care of the patient/client.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s degree in nursing administration
- Certificate in Nursing Administration.
- BSN/ Associate Degree/ Diploma
- At least five years of Registered nurse experience required
- At least one year of health care supervisory experience required
- Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia and Critical Care Courses in ED and ICU
- Basic and Advanced IV Certification required
- Computer proficiency and excellent communication (verbal/written) skills
- Knowledge of all areas of General Nursing
- Specialty in any of these fields: midwifery, psychiatry, gerontology and intensive care nursing will be an asset
- 2-3 years Supervisory/leadership experience required
- Current Barbados RN license required
- Current certification in BLS
- Current Certification in ACLS
- Certification in PALS / PROMPT will be an asset
